Anchorman 2 despite the all out marketing blitz by Will Ferell made only 20 mil over three days and 47 Ronin starring Keannu Reeves as a Japanese Samurai warrior lost 175 mil. It joins a growing list of big budget high profile box office flops this year, like After Earth, White House Down and The Lone Ranger
I liked the first Anchorman but am content to wait until the sequel (the unneeded sequel coming out almost a decade later, I might add) comes out on DVD. The airwaves are too saturated with it right now.

I suppose that depends on your definition of flop. I did not independently check your figures, but to me a film that makes $20m over a 3 day period does not sound like a "flop".
47 ronin lost 175 million? how did that get calculated? is the assumption that all the money made as of today is all the money that will be made from the movie?
Anchorman 2 suffered from the unfunny promotion that was non stop for the past few weeks. The car/truck commercials were lame and the news appearances were tired. Nothing about the promotion made me want to see the movie. Sometimes less is more.
As of December 29, 2013, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has grossed $83,667,000 in North America, and $25,400,000 in other countries, for a worldwide total of $109,067,000
Anchorman 2 had such an all out media blitz that it wouldn't surprise me if the total budget turned out to be considerably higher than the 'estimated $50 million'. It looks like it will make money (It has already surpassed the original) but, will it make enough to make an Anchorman 3 viable? Considering the mediocre reviews and lackluster word of mouth, I would be very surprised if it did.
On the other hand, with a budget of $175 million, 47 Ronin won't even come close to earning it's money back, even after DVD residuals are factored in later on. It's definitely one of 2013's mega flops.

Link says it did well in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Oh, well. Can't win 'em all.
