ROBOSHAFT.
You're damn right.
I think Vivid Entertainment might own the rights to that title.

I'll probably see it because I love science fiction. Also because Samuel Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton are in it. I'm really curious to see how this compares to the original.

in a way, I think that what you're describing is the best reason to do a remake.

if, in the original, there is a good idea for a movie, but bad execution, then that is when Hollywood should do a remake. (that is not to say Robocop was even a good idea for a movie, and for the record, Robocop is one of my most despised films.)

IMO, NOTHING about this remake will be as bad as the original. the special effects will probably be good. the acting will probably be bad, but not as bad as the original. storyline...yeah, that might be worse. you just know there's gonna be some Michelle Rodriguez-esque love interest...

anyway, in summary, here is my theory:

GOOD IDEA + BAD EXECUTION = DO A REMAKE
BAD IDEA + GOOD EXECUTION = DO NOT DO A REMAKE
BAD IDEA + BAD EXECUTION = DO NOT DO A REMAKE
GOOD IDEA + GOOD EXECUTION = DO NOT DO A REMAKE

They shouldn't have made a remake. IMO the original wasn't that great and I don't expect much from the new one. The trailers don't look all that exciting and it should have been a straight to DVD release.
