A 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. You don't see that often.
I know, from knowing letterbox, the distribution is at about clustered at the four star range (something I myself later rated it after not liking it the first time I saw it for some reason.
Recently re-watched Mad Max: Fury Road. Truly floored by this spectacular film; I was never that into the Mad Max '80's movies - though I did see all of them. However, this film is so well-done that IMHO it far eclipses all of the previous movies.
It's an amazing post-apocalyptic (PA) action film with almost stream-of-consciousness element(s) - i.e., when Max was having the flash-backs?! to that kid who died, the various quick editing cuts, etc.
The PA world is very well-realized, and the various characters/tech have obvious punk rock-ish elements to them - obviously in homage to these elements in the '80's movies.
Also liked the scenes when Max & co. travelled through the wastelands...the blue-ish lighting during these scenes was incredible...
This film is also: 1) One of my top five favorite post-apocalyptic films ever & 2) My favorite movie of 2015.
I think I endured about 20-25 minutes before I gave up and turned it off. It looks gorgeous. But as a story it was incoherent and more than a little silly.
I really liked the movie ... it's visually stunning and pretty well-acted. Not sure how the plot is incoherent since it's pretty simple -- Charlize has taken important "cargo" from Joe and he'll stop at nothing to get it back.
The story's perfectly coherent. You can't simplify it any more.
If by "story," you mean "A chases B and things explode" ... well okay. But that will hold my interest for about 5 minutes. As an adult, I don't like stories that are satisfied by being bare simple. Wile E. Coyote works because he never demands more than 10 minutes of our time.
Marcus, if the story's "bare simple," there's no way it can be incoherent.
I had no idea why A was fleeing or why B cared enough to chase. Nor why a society deprived of basic resources still has no trouble maintaining an abundant supply of hairspray, motor oil, Halloween masks, and electric guitars.
Reminds me of that line from The Survivors:
"Greetings, gentlemen. Welcome to the new middle ages! There will be violence, destruction, and savagery never dreamed of. But if you are prepared this will be a time to treasure. For all of you, you are the kings of the future! When the end comes, there will be no supermarkets. No drugstores. No gas stations. But there will always be mail order!"
