Well.............since I now have a girlfriend.............it's a combination of with/without, and I'm also seeing movies I probably wouldn't have.
Prior to her, I used to go alone without thinking about it at all.
We saw Grand Budapest Hotel, The Other Woman, Million Dollar Arm,Godzilla, and Spiderman II together.........but.........X-Men Days of Future Past, Transformers, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.......will be solo for me.
When I worked at the movie theater in town, I used to go by myself all the time, cause it was free and I got to actually keep up with the current movies.
Honestly cost is the biggest thing keeping me from doing it more now. Going alone to a packed show is kinda lame, but a weekday matinee or late run show when you have the room to yourself is great.
I started going to movies by myself when I was in college. I loved it, and I still do. I can sit anywhere I want, if someone is bugging me I can move in the middle of the movie without having to consult anyone, and I can stay for the credits if I'm really interested, or just get up and leave when it is over. The only times I didn't love it so much would be the couple of times when I was totally alone in the theater. That happened with "Coraline" and that is not a show to watch by yourself in a deserted theater.
It's probably been more than a decade since I saw a movie with someone else, and even though the nearest movie theater has $4 matinees, it's probably been two years since I saw a movie in the theater.
Sure! I'd hardly get to go to anything if I sat around waiting for someone who wanted to see the same things I did. Of course, it's lovely to have a sort of movie-soulmate to go with, but I haven't had one for years.
Sure, I go to movies by myself all the time, and have no problems or shame about it.
Though I did feel a bit weird when I tried one of those luxury cinemas not too long ago.
It has cushioned individual reclining seats, but it's set up so that couples could sit close to each other.
A bit awkward when you have to sit like that next to a stranger.
