This is a criminally overlooked comedy, one of the best of the 21st century. It clicks on so many levels.
1. Lizzy Caplan delivers an excellent performance
2. This is like a funnier version of
Bridesmaids, without the sappy romance angle shoehorned in.
3. Plenty of lowbrow sex-and-drugs humor.
Now here's where it gets really good (Warning: Do not read if you're some square whitebread type who scoffs at sociological criticism to preserve their charade of a just existence)
4. This movie perfectly captures the cynicism and moral bankruptcy of Upper middle class white Americans under the age of 35. The characters are mostly a group of inept, insufferable nimrods, yet their lifestyle and wedding celebration reveals a life of privilege, privilege which would almost certainly be absent had they been born of a different color and circumstances. The plot is driven by their own narcissism, conceit, sexual lust and drug use ... because truthfully, they have nothing better to offer society.
5 stars, highly recommend.
