Dazed And Confused (1993) was an absolute classic. Even though it came out in the 90s, it very accurately portrayed me teen years in the 80s. A much more realistic movie than other teen party flicks of the era, like Fast Times At Ridgemont High (which I still love too).
It's definitely got a cult following, but it was underrated. I loved that movie, and felt it was the most realistic teenage film ever. Maybe that's because I'm from Texas, though you apparently are from Rhode Island and still think it's a good portrayal. I wonder if someone who grew up in the 2000's would feel the same though. It applied to my high school years even though I graduated in 1987, but at that time we still didn't have the Internet, cell phones, or home computers in nearly every home. People still went out and socialized, in person. We actually went to game rooms and hung out because we didn't have high quality videogames inside our own homes. The cops would still just make you pour out a beer or throw away marijuana rather than take you to jail and ruin your life. People could get into fist fights without fear of being shot at. There were no gangs at school, at least in my area. It just seems like 1987 was much closer to 1975 than 2005, but chronologically and technologically.
I loved Before Sunrise with Ethan Hawke. The subsequent films didn't have quite the same simple chemistry, but that one was pretty perfect.
I think all three films of the series are perfect.
I haven't seen enough of the 90s,but there are still some that I've watched and loved
Princess Mononoke(1997)-a sublime Miyazaki film.
Thelma & Louise(1991)-I believe it was very popular upon the time it was released but it has aged so well that everybody that hasn't seen it should go watch it.
Sense and Sensibility(1995)-This kind of literary works are never the most popular, anyway Ang Lee's direction was stellar,Emma Thompson's screenplay was awesome, and the cast was excellent.
Howard's End(1992)-Again James Ivory production has never been the most popular but it was worth a check, especially if you're into the Edwardian era of England.Emma Thompson was in it,again.
The Piano(1993)-One of my favorite films of all time.It was at the same year with Schindler's List so the latter sort of got all the spotlight, but The Piano was just as INCREDIBLE,if not even better. The screenplay was incredible, the soundtrack was incredible, and the acting was especially jaw-dropping.Holly Hunter was MAJOR in that role.Such an unique and outstanding film.
Central Station(1998)-A Brazilian masterpiece.Another one of my favorites. This is one of those films that just touches your heart. It breezed with such humanity,so gloriously.I worship Fernanda Montenegro for her performance in this film.
