(I couldn't resist)

Hillary and Tracy Flick have often been compared to one another (yes, I've seen the movie). This has happened often enough that Hillary (and this surprises me) actually has a good sense of humor about the comparison.

I did as well.

Probably because of the title, not the subject matter, the mention of Strictly Ballroom prompted me to think of Whit Stillman's three comedies of manners (released in the 90s) that I enjoyed - Metropolitan, Barcelona, and The Last Days of Disco.

Class Action - Gene Hackman
Not Without My Daughter....definitely . It was harrowing. It should have received much more attention than it did.

I love Miller's Crossing, though I cannot for the life of me come up with a reason that just because I love a movie then anyone who doesn't is wrong.

But... under-rated? Please. The film was critically-acclaimed. It won numerous awards. It has a 7.9 rating on IMDB, which is extremely high.

I think you're confusing 'popular' with 'appreciated'. It is true that Miller's Crossing only did $5 million at the box office. But so what? The fact that McDonald's makes billions every year, which is billions more than Tavern on the Green makes, doesn't mean that people rate McDonald's higher than Tavern on the Green.

Yep.

IMO, the 3 best films released in the U.S. since 1990 are The Shawshank Redemption, The Pianist (not The Piano, which is a different film), and Schindler's List.

Probably the least seen and most underrated 90s movie I can think of has to be: The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human.

It has David Hyde Pierce and Carmen Electra (she's actually good in this). This was Jeff Abugov's only movie. It SHOULD be a cult classic along the lines of Office Space, but for some reason it isn't.

Others include:

* Les visiteurs (famous in France, but almost unknown in America even though it got an excellent remake - Just Visiting).

* Blast from the Past (Might be one of Brendan Fraser's best movies.)

* Dead Alive aka Braindead (Has a cult following in horror circles, but still somewhat unknown. Directed by Peter Jackson.)

* Pump Up the Volume (Christian Slater was once a household name.)

* Romper Stomper (Russell Crowe's breakout roll.)

* Three Colors: Red

* Jacob's Ladder (Known, but still underrated. Pretty sure this was the movie that started the fast jerky-shake thing.)

* Cemetery Man (Another with a cult following in horror circles.)

* Tremors (Known, but underrated.)

* Cube

* Starship Troopers

* Gattaca

* Dark City

* Velvet Goldmine

* Strange Days

* The Game

* Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai

* eXistenZ

* Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead

* Pi

* Magnolia

* Event Horizon

* The Boondock Saints (People probably know about this one now.)

* Rushmore (Stars Jason Schwartzman & Bill Murray)

* Ed Wood

* Mallrats

* Swingers

* Lost Highway

* Gummo

* Glengarry Glen Ross (I think most people have watched at least the quotable parts of this movie, but not necessarily the whole movie.)

* Arlington Road (Iffy on this one, but I think it's underrated.)

* Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight

* Hardware

* Tromeo and Juliet/Terror Firmer

* In the Mouth of Madness

And many, many more!
re The Game. Loved it. Swingers, and Rushmore , but I don't know if I would call either under appreciated. A friend of mine from Nicaragua made me aware of The Boondock Saints long after in was released for home viewing.
