So, they're filming Snowden. I was pretty surprised to see that a movie about the guy is being made already. The story is not over. The guy is only 31 years old. I'm sure it will be an entertaining enough feature, but the idea struck me as odd.
I was surprised that The Fifth Estate about Julian Assange didn't do well. I thought it was pretty good, especially given the material.
What link? They are currently filming, it comes out on Christmas. Joseph Gordon Levitt stars as Snowden while Zachary Quinto plays Greenwald, and there are a few other big names in the cast as well. It's a much simpler story than Assange's, so I'm just hoping they tell accurately and without passing judgement.
I'm sure a bulk of the movie will be in that Hong Kong hotel room. There were some photos of Levitt filming basic training scenes, so it seems like they will be telling Snowden's life story too and not just diving right into him leaking the documents.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt Eyes Edward Snowden Role in Oliver Stone Movie
Stone acquired the rights to the book “Time of the Octopus” by Snowden’s lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, which is considered the closest thing to a documented account of the events since Snowden first released the documents.
If the deal is made, production would likely begin at the end of the year or in the early first quarter of 2015.

I watched the documentary on HBO. Very good. But I can't imagine the movie would cover anything new or be exciting. I'll watch it but if they try to overdramatize it then it will be awful.
