Ok - three movies where a team of military badasses are gathered to escort a scientist/computer hacker/every day nerd on a delicate mission. The badasses are of course resentful that this person is just holding them back. Shortly into their mission the entire elite squad is wiped out, leaving the scientist/hacker/nerd as the only person left to complete the mission.

Aliens (1986). ... Game over man. Game over.

WarGames (1983) ... Do you want to play a game?

Godzilla (1998) ... That's a lot of fish.

Two of those work, although I don't think anyone died protecting Matthew Broderick. Nicolas Cage in The Rock was the prototypical scenario that came to mind.

Pretty good about walking on water.

I was thinking of one of the spoilers, Superman II, and.................................

..........................................The Red Tent. Because, after all, ice is water, too!

As far as three bad ass/nerd movies:

Ordeal in the Arctic
GoldenEye
The Wild Geese

It's all a matter of interpretation. Let's look at each flick. "Ordeal..." will be in spoilers for while a true story, I am not sure if most have seen it.

Spoiler
The bad boys are the C-130 air crew, Richard Chamberlain in the lead. The scientist is Dr. Wilma De Groot (Catherine Mary Stewart). The plane crashes, part of the air crew is killed immediately. Chamberlain eventually freezes to death in his travels to those survivors who can't be moved to the tail section while De Groot keeps the survivors assembled in the tail alive.

GoldenEye: The bad boys are the Russian military, the hacker is Natalya Simonova.
If one needs definite proof that the Russian military was there to protect her, consider the MiG's that responded to the alarm. The protection military is decimated, Simonova carries on the mission to keep GoldenEye out of the wrong hands.

The Wild Geese: The bad boys are the Wild Geese, the nerd is President Limbani. As the mercenary force is whittled down protecting him, it is Limbani and his reputation that is vital for mission success, such as the survival of those still alive. From being the source of a popular revolution to getting them escape landing clearances, he is the key.

As I said, depends on how you look at it.......and I'm more in this for finding alternate ways at looking at movies than winning the question.

If someone hasn't been declared the winner of the last round, open question.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

In "It's a Gift", I believe they use the rumble seat for their luggage. I don't know if that counts. Also, with W.C. Fields again: I think he drives a car with an unused rumble seat in "If I Had a Million". My memory is hazy on these as I haven't seen them for many years.

I was trying to recall if Andy Hardy/Mickey Rooney had such a car.

I think the girls ride in one in "Paper Moon", after Mose invites Trixie along.

Sorry, but I have a fibrofoggy brain that doesn't always give me clear memories.
