I started this thread partially because I'm curious if there are any other guys out there who have romantic comedies they like that are less on the girly side. For instance, two of my favorites are Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I Love You, Man. They are by far my two favorite romantic comedies.
A few years ago, I wrote and directed my own, Amy Alyson Fans (available on iTunes, Hulu, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, etc.) that I intended for a guy audience but that girls seem to enjoy also. I'd love to hear what some of the other favorites are, especially from the male audience :P
Jonathan, you need to see some OLD romantic comedies, from the days when they were really good, starting in the 1930s. Do you happen to have a theater in town that shows classic movies? Or a college or museum?
It Happened One Night was just on TV recently, and it surprises me how well it holds up.
Oeccscclhjhn (geez, what a handle), it's nice to see someone else who loves Trouble in Paradise.
I was a film critic before I was a filmmaker so yes I've seen and love It Happened One Night, it's one of my favorites, and quite a few other screwball comedies of the day were so sharp and witty and fun.
I like films from all eras, really. A lot of romantic comedies today are garbage it's true, but there are the occasional gems. Ironically it's one of my least favorite genres now even though I chose for my first film to be in it! Ha ha.
It's so good, that one of the local Indy theaters shows it on the big screen on a regular basis. (Last time I went, there were no empty seats!)
