I thought this was a great movie. Cooper and Clint did Kyle justice.
I didn't give the fake baby any thought. Who cares?
The more I see different sites/people try to rip him and his story apart, the happier I am that this movie was such a hit. He was a true American hero.
Saw it today and liked it. For those who haven't seen it, it truly is a war movie. 90% of the movie takes place on the battlefield with a lot of action scenes. Most of the other brief scenes take place at home with his family.
Not many war movies made about Iraq. This is one of the best ones. Hard to believe Clint Eastwood, at 84, can still make such good compelling movies.

I agree that it was a great movie. It really makes you realize how much our young servicemen and women sacrifice for their country.
The part I'm glad they didn't "sugar coat" was the barbarity and savagery of the insurgents that these poor guys had to fight. From the woman that gives her young child a grenade to kill soldiers with, to the insurgent that torments a man by drilling a hole into his young son's knee to torture him, and then killed the kid by drilling in his head. To the "butcher shop" where the one victim is disemboweled, and body parts are stacked like wood on shelves. All the while the "normal" Iraqis, who our soldiers are trying to save and protect from these butchers, do nothing to help our soldiers. It re-affirms my opinion concerning the Middle East. There is no one and nothing there worth the life of another American serviceman or woman.
To the Chris Kyles of our military, thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Interesting film in that the central protagonist doesn't have much of a character arc. Sure, he experiences PTSD, but he was as gung-ho about the war during his last tour as he was his first, and that belief never wavers. Chris Kyle was no Ron Kovic, which is why a lot of people (on both sides) are misinterpreting "American Sniper" as a pro-war film, when it isn't. It's clear the film sympathizes with Kyle more than it agrees with him.
