I've heard this movie was remade in 1997, but I'm referring to the 1952 version.
I tuned in to the beginning last night, and the first thing that occurred to me was why did they have a 27-year-old actress (Julie Harris) in the role of the main character who was supposed to be 12 years old?

My guess is because she had done the same role to rave reviews on Broadway. So maybe this was kind of a way of letting the movie-going populace who couldn't go to New York and see her get a taste of her performance in the film.

Oh, o.k., thanks for the info!!

She was a wonderful actress in general, but just wasn't very believable in the role of a child.

I think she did a good job considering her real age....
