It is said that to many of the youth of today, they don't know what the Save Icon represents since they have never used a 3 inch diskette.
So, if they were watching "Tomorrow Never Dies", would they wonder about the contents of the briefcase when Bond searches through it? Would they even care or for that matter, watch?
Some might, it is one of two Bond flicks (the other is Thunderball) I often use as examples in class.
I suppose this scene from classic Doctor Who http://shillpages.com/dw/padbuw25.jpg
would be lost on them or they might be confused about Ernst upsetting the lining of 007's (Connery) suit since they may not have a clue of what that prop is in "Diamonds are Forever".
Sigh, but such is as one grows older, how things change. I remember the curious difference I noticed in an "I dream of Jeannie" episode when she's small in a wine bottle.....the measurements on the bottle were in pints and ounces, not milliliters.
But for those of us around since the 60's, what props might we see in older movies, say those of the 20's through the 60's, that were common "household" items.....that we might not have a clue of what they are?
Most devices I knew and I am 27 but then again I watched several Nick At Night shows that had old devices as did movies I saw like a Roger Rabbit (a 1940's post war period piece.)
They also might not understand when they see this weird thing in older movies: people putting these white things into their mouths, with smoke coming out.
Or, they might just think it must be medical marijuana.
There was a movie in the early 2000's based entirely around a phone booth. It had Keifer Sutherland as one of the stars.
Wait, that was a while ago...
Yes when they were somewhat relevant. I think those who are about 10 years or younger than I would wonder what older technology was, me I knew a lot of it by what I was exposed to as a kid.

Well in some cases they may, most Disney movies that are re-released with smoking has an anti-smoking PSA attached to the trailers. Disney also recently banned smoking from movies going forward including Marvel Studios films.
This wouldn't seem to be any more of an issue than people of any era watching something set in the past - Gone With The Wind, The Lion In Winter, Quest For Fire, and so forth.

Thank God they didn't re-edit the films to remove cigarettes.. Wasn't there some movie where that was done a few years back? I know ET they edited the guns out.
I have no problem with 'directors cuts' that add footage.. But you don't change or remove things.
