Coming from a guy who has not seen an embarrassing amount of movies, I'm trying to collect a list of great movies that I need to watch. I obviously don't want to watch movies solely from this decade, I'm just making each decade a thread at a time because I know topics like "greatest movies of all time" are too vague when they cover decades and decades.

So help me out please!

Matthew, get yourself a couple of books to leaf through. Personally, I like Leslie Halliwell.

Welcome to LeslieHalliwell.com - celebrating Halliwell's Film Guide

Oeccscclhjhn's picks are great, but much too rarified for most people.

Nobody NEEDS to watch movies. The list of movies you will enjoy and the ones you might learn from are very specific to your own interests, past history, and education in various areas and cultures. If you plan on learning about movies and the players, spending an equal amount of time on the back story or bios or source material may be as important as watching the movie itself.
