The last sequence, 15 minutes or so, when the theme song (Irish dance?) starts playing, and they are going up the mountain, and no words are spoken, is absolutely riveting - one of the best ever.
I utterly agree. The best part in a movie full of best parts.
Meh. Very over-rated. Michael Mann is a master of cinematography and imagery. When it comes to things like character development, he's clueless. He doesn't know how to develop emotions and characters, so he just has the actors look at each other while he plays music on the soundtrack.
This is a fantastic movie for the cinematography and music. As a story it never quite works. There's a good movie in there somewhere, but it either ended up on the cutting room floor or Mann never found it. Having watched many of his other movies, I suspect he never found it. "Just stare longingly at each other and I'll put in some music later!"
