Myself, I go for the Bad Western. For one thing, it is much easier to wrap the story up in 5 minutes with "We are all okay" for all they have to do save the homestead, not the planet.
Another is that it seems so much easier to express sexuality "back then" with an occasional corset, a long leaned man.
But, I could be jaded, so what does the hive think?
Bad western is almost always better than a bad sci-fi movie.
Of course "BAD" is pretty subjective. I've watched any number of what is seen as a "bad" movie, and liked them.
Ohhhhhh, watched one last night, "Alien Species" with Charles Napier. It was pretty down there which made it to enjoy it for what it was, something of an interesting diversion for 90 minutes or so.
So watching a low grade Western today, "Wanted". This was such an impressive movie the I realized I had watched half of it before and couldn't really remember what part came next.
Between the two, I think the Westerns do not generate that one question in the mind ........ "Why am I watching this?".
Tough one as I avoid bad movies like the plague, and yet on the right day an extremely bad one can be a nice change of pace.
I do like westerns, sci-fi not so much.
Bad sci-fi can be campy/culty so it got my vote.
Haven't seen this one since the late 60's but it always tried to catch it when it was on if for nothing else, the crude special effects:
The film's original on-screen title is "Earth vs. the Spider", but when The Fly (also released in 1958) became a blockbuster, the title was shortened to just "The Spider" on all of the advertising material.
The original screen title, however, was never changed, so the film is frequently referred to by the title "Earth vs. the Spider".

IDK. Either when they are bad are just....bad. I guess I'd have to say Western though because at least you don't have cheesy special effects to contend with. REALLY horrible CGI and obvious rubber suits and such really ruin it for me. Though I have some very bad attempts at Westerns that jump to mind. That one with Mario Van Peebles, Posse, was about THE worst attempt at a Western I've ever seen. I had to turn it off and wanted my money back on the rental.
