Me and my wife were watching Titanic the other day, for the 5th time. Sure, it's a good movie, it's watchable, well made, and quite interesting. I liked it the first time, then when I saw it again a few months later I still enjoyed it. It's come on tv a couple of times over the years and I don't mind watching it but I don't really pay as much attention to it as before. But it's a pleasant enough 3 hours so I don't mind sitting through it.

But my wife just loooooooooves that movie so much. She must have seen it at least 15 times. What is it about that movie that is so appealing to women?

I saw the movie once and hated it. Although the Titanic itself is cool, I like documentaries on it. It's sad how fast it's deteriorating.

If I had to guess, it's just the kind of movie your wife likes. It appeals to her on some level. Some people like romances (like Titanic), some like war movies, some like action movies, some like comedies. You might pick something you really like (or even be as specific as a type of movie you like) and ask why it's appealing to you. Drill down. If you like action movies, what is it about the action you like, where does it appeal emotionally. I bet your answer will be pretty close to why your wife likes Titanic.

I guess asking your wife why she likes it (as opposed to assuming your wife is the voice of Movies for all women) is out of the question?

That fairy tale love stuff some women dream of having.

I enjoyed the movie.

I don't particularly get any type of feels from the love story, but I do find it sad that the ship sank.

It's not my type of fantasy.

Some people dig the whole star-crossed lovers in a doomed romance tragic thing. Go figure.

It's coz Kate and Leo, aside from having intense screen chemistry, are really good actors. Plus James is egotistic, but he also is a perfectionist. And you can see it in the whole film, everything is perfect, acting, directing, cinematography, musical arrangement.

In the midst of chaos, a poor good looking fun guy dies. While the egotist escapes death by cowardice, only to kill himself years later after financial ruin.

And a very expensive jewel gets tossed in the ocean decades later. That part really chapped my arse.

Because it's another in a long line of exceedingly dumb love stories. And impossible stunt scenes, too. I saw parts of it, and I'm sorry I did.

He sacrificed himself to keep her afloat and safe. I can't imagine being loved that much. Who wouldn't find that romantic?

Actually I didn't care as much for the movie as I did the theme song, My Heart Will Go On. Love it!
