It's shame, because the ending of RETURN OF THE JEDI actually set the universe up for some really interesting stories that could have taken the universe and the characters in bold new directions.
And the series finale of Rebels sets up one of those stories.
I watched Cameron's interview with Lucas. Even though I have been less than thrilled at the new trilogy, I have to admit Lucas's ideas sound extremely silly. STAR WARS has always been at its best when it is science FICTION and not SCIENCE fiction. STAR WARS is a space fantasy, George. Stop obsessing over the midichlorians.
Star Wars is space opera. The "science" in it is negligible. It's about swashbuckling, adventure, cool spaceships and blowing stuff up. There's this "religious order" that walks around with swords made not of steel but energy/laser beams (that somehow quit at five feet).

There's more "science" in Lord of the Rings.
Yup. STAR WARS is a samurai western that just happens to be set in space. It's Fantasy, not science fiction.
