Last night on TCM I watched "Stormy Weather". A wonderful all-Black cast film from the 1940s. And the condition of the print was superb. Nice to see some entertainers shine that usually got short shrift.
But here's my question -- in several of the stage scenes, Black actors were donning black face.
I have to admit that I don't get that. What was the logic of that?
