I really doubt anyone in Hollywood sees this as a Big "Art" Movie. I'm certain the studio is hoping for science-fiction blockbuster.

I think they'll be disappointed unless they are making some serious changes to the book. DUNE is not blockbuster material. It's very political and philosophical. There is more scheming that outright action. It is exceedingly dense in places.

That said, as a big fan of the book, I wouldn't object to changing portions of the book. DUNE is one of the best badly-written books of all time. It's a great story, but portions of it are really badly written. DUNE is a great book that needs some serious adaptation to succeed as a movie.

I agree, but with regard to actors finding their way to it, I think their reasons are different from the reasons of the producers. Yeah, the producers are looking for a blockbuster, but big actors seem to be attracted to these small roles for other reasons.

Huh. So the movies not only will break where the novel logically breaks, but the movies are actually expanding some of the background material.

What kinds of movies is Legendary hoping to make moving forward?

We're making a diversified slate financially. We have some that are huge like Dune.

Will Dune be two movies?

That's the plan. There's a backstory that was hinted at in some of the books [that we expanded]. Also, when you read the book there's a logical place to stop the movie before the book is over.

If it's on WB's streaming service, I expect they'll announce the show is cancelled halfway through the first season.

DUNE delayed by 1 month --- and getting an IMAX release! I expect this will be one worth viewing in IMAX.
