Oh no ...not Doris. The golden era of Hollywood has now definitely come to an end. While everyone of us at some point in time will die, the really sad part about this recent news is that many who contribute to these entertainment forums will not even know who Doris Day was.
We think of her mainly for her light, fluffy comedy roles, but I think I liked her best in "The Man Who Knew Too Much".
That was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I was absolutely enthralled by the Storm Clouds Contata scene at the Albert Hall where the tension is building both musically and in a real life situation as a visiting dignitary is about to be shot at the final clash of cymbals. Even today I'll re-watch that movie periodically with friends. Sure, it's probably a tad corny or tongue-in-cheek (possibly intended by Hitchcock) but I think it still holds up pretty well as an exciting drama. It also has cinematic historical value (1956) and should be viewed as such.
