I'm going to list a few types of films that appeal to me. I'm up for anything that's not either Oscar Bait or standard summer blockbuster fare. I prefer to watch low-key, character-driven dramas, as well as gritty crime films and psychological horror films. I even enjoy some films that are overall so-so in production quality, but appeal to me in some way, shape or form.

Here are a few types of films that I enjoy:

(a) Road movies, involving two friends. (Can't list any examples off the top of my head)

(b) dark psychological horror-thriller films with a homicidal, psychopathic character. Bonus points if the psychopath is a realistic one. I'm not squeamish to gore, as a matter of fact, I'm minoring in Forensic Science and majoring in Criminal Justice so blood is most definitely not a "turn-off" for me. (Film examples: Cape Fear, Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, Wolf Creek, The Killer Inside Me, Intensity, Natural Born Killers, Blue Velvet)

(c) gritty crime drama films with corrupt cops, drugs, organized crime, etc, etc. (Film examples: Scarface, Casino, Carlito's Way, Dark Blue, Training Day, Bad Lieutenant, Serpico, Bound, The Salton Sea)

(d) Films about men who go from "all" to "nothing", sometimes within' the same night, and all by his own doing. Self-destructive antics that cost him his family, career, etc. (Film examples: American Beauty, Affliction, Locke, Solitary Man)

(e) Films about two friends who are partners in crime. (Film examples: Thelma And Louise, Fargo, Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, In Cold Blood)

(f) True crime. (Film examples: Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, In Cold Blood, Alpha Dog)

Can you recommend me any film(s) that fit anywhere within' the criteria mentioned above?

a) Smokey and the Bandit: kitsch, but incredibly iconic AND entertaining. Obviously Burt Reynolds steals it, but Sally Fields not far behind.

b) True Romance, with three memorable psychos vs. just one: Gary Oldman, cameo by Christopher Walken, and a lesser part by James Gandolfini.

c) Gang Related, with Tupoc Shakur and James Belushi. Nothing touches it. Plot takes about four major twists, starting with the first: corrupt cops waste the wrong drug dealer...right up to the last scene of the film.

d) Trading Places, funny as heck and lightening up your list.

e) Heat, Val Kimber and Robert DeNiro.

f) Anything about Warren Jeffs would be interesting and fit the bill...
