I generally don't watch the Oscars. It's just too damn long!!! Plus, I don't know most of the movies. It seems that the movies that are most talked about are not the ones nominated and the ones nominated are one's that don't get discussed.

How many of the following movies have you seen?

BlacKkKlansman
Black Panther
Bohemian Rhapsody
The Favourite
Green Book
Roma
A Star Is Born
Vice
Only seen Black Panther. I'm going to try to fit in Black Klansmen and A Star is Born this weekend.

I guess that is proof that while there own advertising efforts were not enough to lure people to the movies when the show people give themselves awards we go to see why they are awarding themselves.

I've seen six. I can't bring myself to get interested in Bohemian Rhapsody, and I haven't had a chance to see Roma yet.

Black Panther has no business being on the list.

Saw Roma, felt like watching a 3 hour family home movie.

^ only three. If I were to rank those, Favourite, Star, then Rhapsody. I want to see Green Book also. Here's my 2018 ranking - out of 46 2018 films seen to date (if it's a 2018 U.S. release, then it's listed in 2018).

I though Roma was beautifully done. Definitely an arthouse pic, and many people won’t enjoy it. And to be honest I spent the first 30 minutes or so wondering if there was going to be a story (there was). But in the end, I was really blown away by the direction, the cinamatography, and the performances, particularly by the actress who played Cleo.

Just saw Vice, should have waited for Redbox, not worth the money.

I agree with an earlier poster who says the Oscars are nothing but a publicity move for the industry. As far as your statement goes, The Oscars are supposed to be for the individual performance. They do have a lifetime achievement award each year for those that have been consistently good throughout their career. Maybe someday your favorite actors or actresses will get one.
