The Texas Rangers that hunted down Bonnie and Clyde were both retired legends of their time, especially Frank Hamer.
Hamer was pretty old by then. He began Rangering in 1905, and was part of the Ranger contingent that Texas loaned to the U.S. Army to try to track down Pancho Villa during the Mexican Revolution's border strikes in 1912. He had been patrolling the border since 1909.
I think he was also the Ranger who was sent to quell a riot singlehandedly. When reporters asked why only one Ranger was sent, the Chief said "There was only one riot."
By the time he finally retired, he had been shot 17 times and had been left for dead 4 times.
I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. If it's anywhere close to accurate, it will be a good story.
Costner and Harrelson were both good, along with the supporting cast. I think it did drag a bit long but it still kept my attention.
