Peyton Reed would be prefect for Fantastic Four. If I am not mistaken his treatment for a Fantastic Four movie got him his eventual Ant-Man gig.
It is amazing how critical the choice of who the director is to these movies. Part of the reason for Marvel’s success has been their luck with getting some great directors. James Gunn was rehired for GG3, but it would have been interesting to see what it would have looked like without him. I’m not familiar with Peyton Reed, but the Fantastic Four (and especially Dr. Doom) deserve better than what they have gotten on the big screen. Dr. Doom is a Thanos-tier villain in the comics and was an absolute joke to watch how he was displayed in the last Fantastic Four.
I dunno. I liked both the ANT MAN flicks, but one thing they are certainly not is deep or sophisticated. They're fun. The FANTASTIC FOUR movie needs a writer and director who can give the story a great deal of depth and pathos. Otherwise, every single person is going to leave the theater going, "Meh. THE INCREDIBLES was a way better version of this story."
I would like to see Marvel pick a writer / director who isn't an obvious "blockbuster movie" choice. Someone like ...
Graham Yost
Vince Gilligan
Jennifer Kent
David Mackenzie
Taylor Sheridan

It is especially with a first movie. I think for guardians it would have been hard since Gunn is a weird director. It would really take someone special to continue what he has done. I mean look at Shane Black's Iron Man 3 versus the Favereau ones, very different tone and very different movies.
I was hoping they were serious about waiting 5 years before another F4 or X-men movie. I would much prefer a couple of solo movies that leads to a team up 5 years down the road.

Assuming that the Sony deal and Spider-Man plot doesn't blow up the MCU I think they need more than 5 years to introduce the ideal of a bunch of mutants running around getting anywhere near the stage of forming into groups. The Fantastic Four on the other hand should be able to be punched into the 23 movie series seamlessly

Fantastic Four might be rolling in during Phase 4 to set up Galactus as a future Thanos level threat. I'm down with that, just don't make him a cloud and don't have Silver Surfer do what he did in the second Tim Story Fantastic Four.
