I just saw the first notice of this movie, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison (wayyyyy too tall) and Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse, covering the titanic battle between AC and DC commercial power. Great potential for a story about this technological revolution/battle.

I see there's casting for Nikola Tesla, but not Charles Steinmetz. That sets off some alarm bells; I can only hope they portray Tesla's role accurately, and not in Margaret Cheney's adoring worship mode as promoted these days by the crowd at Cracked . com. But I suspect otherwise.

Tesla had exactly two workable ideas in his life and sold both to Westinghouse, who then screwed him out of millions in royalties (millions in that era). And even at that, his brilliant synthesis of AC theory was worked out into practical engineering by Steinmetz, who is all but forgotten - as this film's casting already shows. Even though Peter Dinklage could have absolutely killed the role (Steinmetz was a dwarf.)

I hope it's better than the other period/history films BC has made. But I'm not holding my breath, not based on the preview info.
