Anyone think that it would be possible in today’s era to remake “Random Harvest” (one of my favorites from the classic era) in a more modern sensibility w/o it seeming too contrived as to the big surprise moment?

People still have accidents that cause amnesia
It seems logical that depending on location it would be possible for someone not to be know/recognized even if fairly successful

But there seems to be so much in public record today that would prevent a remake
And there is no point in just making a new version set in the same era...
WWII would be possible
Vietnam possible but more unlikely
But once you get into modern era the probability slides heavily toward unbelievable
That particular era was what made “Random Harvest” such a great movie—the rational framework of the irony and the sacrifice...

Would it work all other aspects being strong, if it was moved forward?
If so how far do you think it could travel w/o tearing the fabric of believability...

My #3 favorite film.

Actually, I'd hate to see it remade.

I'll start by admitting that I've never seen Random Harvest.

But I'll point out that most re-makes aren't successful, often because the plot wasn't necessarily what made the original great.

Also, as was once pointed out to me, amnesia is already overly common in movies: Desperately Seeking Susan, Memento, Overboard, 50 First Dates, Dead Again, etc.

Random Harvest was my mother's favorite movie. I've also seen it many times. I would rather it be re-released in theatres but if they do plan on a remake stick to the original storyline.
