Does this statement - often claimed really mean anything to you?

I hear this about the lead in almost every action movie - especially about a few actors who may need their images polished. It is usually during the publicity tour that you hear this in hopes the cachet will draw more ticket sales. Then when you get the DVD, you hear the stunt coordinator say "well - he did most of his own stunts; we had a double for the more dangerous work.

It seems to be just a cliché; similar to the one where the younger actor says that the senior actor "was so generous" and "he/she helped me expand and come into my own as an actor."

Of the actors who are "known" to do their own stunts, I think I only believe that Tom Cruise and Jackie Chan really did all or close to all their own serious stunts; followed by Jason Statham. The rest I am dubious of.

Top Ten Actors Who Do Their Own Stunts – AMC

While searching, I have yet to find few great ones that compare to what actual stunt men have done. There are plenty of lists of "best stunts", but when you look for the "Best stunt performed by an actor" you get a lot of "Actors who perform their own stunts lists"; but not a specific stunt - that is except for the Tom Cruise "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation" Airplane hang and Charlton Heston's chariot jump (OK, Heston, didn't do the actual jump, but he did do much of the close up work in the speeding chariot).

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of actors doing dangerous stuff... But I think this "he did it all" is mostly a cliché.

Do you know of any GREAT actor performed stunts?

Jackie Chan does all his own stunts. He actually choreographs most if not all of the fight scenes and action scenes in his movies.

No. I don't care if an actor does his/her own stunts or not. I remember the huge deal everyone made of Tom Cruise hanging onto the side of an airplane "wow, he did his own stunt!" I don't go to movies to see actors performing their own stunts. Really doesn't matter to me. So I don't know who does and who doesn't.

When I found out that Lee Majors didn't do any of his own stunts on The Fall Guy, I didn't stop crying for a week.

Cleaning out the attic, taking out the trash, re-arranging the garage, moving furniture ... basically, whatever my wife tells me to do. Jason Statham's got nothin on me.

If I don't care whether or not an actor wrote the screenplay, was the head of wardrobe design, or personally operated the boom camera - and trust me, I don't care one iota - then why would I care whether or not he did his own stunts? I mean, it might be an interesting curiosity. But it's irrelevant to the quality of the product.
