Ok here it comes the inevitable end of year list. This is mine. What's yours?

Full Disclosure:
I have been a movie buff since the mid 1990s. This year something weird happened: Since the summer movie season I have been at the theater EVERY weekend; there were a lot of films I wanted to see this year.

Below in no particular order, are the movies I saw that had likable characters, decent settings and enjoyable to outstanding plots but failed because the public (in my opinion) didn't give a rat's ass.

* Arctic Dogs
* Richard Jewel
* Missing Link
* Pet Semetery
* Angry Birds 2 (Much, much much better than the original.)
* Abominable (This film's only flaw was that it was made by Dreamwork's Animation not Disney)
* The Addams Family
* Harriet
* Doctor Sleep- Shining sequel (I loved the villainess in this film. She can claim my soul anytime )

Of that list, the only ones I saw ---

Pet Semetery. Was this a bad movie? No. But it wasn't a very good movie either. The actors' performances were the best part, but the writing had severe problems. This was a mediocre movie at best.

Doctor Sleep had some third act problems, but all in all, I loved this movie. In fact, as a story I think it succeeds far better than The Shining. And hey, if you fell in love with Rose the Hat in that movie, get ready to see her next year in DUNE.

Didn't see Dr.Sleep or Pet Semetery. Haven't seen Harriet or Richard Jewel. I did see the animated ones, and i enjoyed them all. Saw the movie JoJo Rabbit and want to get it on DVD. Thought the work they did on the time period was historically accurate, unlike things you see with some historical movies.

The Addams Family (40 million budget, 185.9 million gross with sequel announced) was not a flop. Neither was Harriet (17 million budget, 42 million gross).

I was surprised at how little attention Harriet received. I'm still hoping for a Best Actress nod for Cynthia Erivo.

I intended to see Harriet but the timing wasn't right and I ended up watching Midway, A mistake.

Oh, no, really?

I've been trying to make time to see Midway.. I love historical movies like that.. I mean, Tora! Tora! Tora! is one of my favorite movies of all time, though.. It did have a handful of historical inaccuracies in it, but to be fair, they were proven to be inaccurate after the fact.

I wasn't expecting it to be that good, but was hoping for something on a Saving Private Ryan level.. I'm hoping it wasn't on a "Pearl Harbor" level?

It's directed by Roland Emmerich, which should tell you something. In 40 years of making movies, he has never once made a good movie.

Well.. Independence Day wasn't horrible. I mean, it wasn't exactly a 'deep' movie or anything.. But, it was enjoyable.

I thought he did one of the 'disaster' movies back in the 70's? ok.. no.. So who am I confusing him with? Maybe Irwin Allen.. How I'm confusing them I have no idea. but I thought he did a big disaster movie.. Oh.. 2012 and Day After tomorrow.. That must be what I'm thinking of.. Yeah.. Those were not good.

But.. He did the Patriot.. While the historical accuracy certainly wasn't there.. I give him credit for that, it was a good movie.

It was fun, if you're in the right mood. But it is soooooo dumb. But hey, some dumb fun now and then is fine.

Historical accuracy aside, THE PATRIOT has one truly great scene. The rest of the movie is a mess.
