I’m guessing we are the only ones who like it or watched it.
Layer Cake is okay however in terms of British Gangster movies, there are better films.
Bob Hoskins is still my favoirite British gangster and 'The Long Good Friday' is still imho the best British Gangster film, although Hoskins performance in 'Mona Lisa' another gangster film is equally brilliant.
Others worthy of a mention include 'Sexy Beast', 'Gangster No. 1' and 'Eastern Promises', whilst 'Brghton Rock' and 'Get Carter' are both seen as classic old British gangster movies.
In terms of comedy 'In Bruges' is a good gangster film with some very good performances.

The Long Good Friday is an excellent movie, always liked that. Didn't realize who Helen Mirren was until later. Sexy Beast as well, always enjoyed Ray Winstone. I saw Get Carter for the first time a few months ago. I subscribed to Acorn for a free trail, think I'll keep it. A lot of really good detective shows on there. Of course, I have to turn on the closed captioning, can't understand those crazy Brits! I even keep a list of all the idioms and slang I had to google to figure our what the hell they're talking about.
One movie I haven't been able to track down is a bank caper starring Martin Sheen. I think it came out in the 80's. He's an architect with a struggling business approached by a gangster to pull a bank job. Anyone know the name?
I like this film and I LOVE Sexy Beast! Ben Kingsley is fabulous in it and what a nightmare character he plays! Here is the thing though despite Don being everybodies worst nightmare he is not even the scariest character in the film! That honour goes to Teddy Bass (Ian McShane), the scenes at the airport are hilarious.
