Difficult to say......because in my philosophy, death means incredibly nothing.
But that said, three flicks come to mind. First is
The Never Ending Story.
I have never seen it but I have come across seconds of that clip and because of that, I refuse to ever watch that flick.
Second is Red Planet when Chantilas bought it. It is not so much his death but rather, the procedures that were followed at that moment.
Finally, there is The Red Tent (1969) and that's an A and B one. A, there is when Malmgren (?) died and, again, that is more about procedures and protocols (no man should die without God). B, however, since the entire movie is built around almost everyone who has already died, there is something of a chilling, all puns intended, effect to it.
So much of life is a mystery, my boy. We know so little of this world. But you and I have made a journey that other men cannot even imagine. And this has given understanding to our hearts.
The enormity of "The Killing Fields" broke my heart.
Both "Sophie's Choice" and "Out of Africa" caused me tears.
The scene in "Terms of Endearment" where her daughter is dying in the hospital and Shirley Maclaine starts screaming about giving her the pain medication embodies the helpless panic felt by losing a loved one to cancer and just wipes me out.
The death of the final Chinese dynasty, "The Last Emperor" also made me cry.
Not the saddest - but one that comes to mind immediately: Grave of the Fireflies (1988).
