Yeah. I honestly have no clue how he is going to fit DUNE into anything less than a nine hour movie. This shouldn't be a movie. It should be an HBO mini-series.
I saw the original and, panned as it was, it was stange and fantastical enough that it inspired me to read all six of the original books. Years later I watched the expanded version on TV, and the sci-fi channel original.
I can say that there has yet to be a perfect version. It has to balance the exposition that explains this truly strange universe with enough action to keep it moving. No mean feat.
I will be blunt and say that I am not sure it can be done. The book it a classic, and Lych's movie in its first, truncated format is just visually interesting enough (with an amazing cast!) that it will contiue to stand as a cult classic that sucks new generations in.
