My wife rented it and I really didnt think I would like it. However it was a great movie, it got me thinking about what we could do in our lives that we always wanted to do.
We watched it tonight and loved it very deep if you think about it but good laughs too. My fav line was when Jack tells Morgan "well you don't have to get all chippy on me". We laughed the hardest when he shot the 'big' gun.
I bet Matthew was remembered in a will don't you think?
Just say what you need to say............................... or you might find yourself all chippy you didn't.
I loved this movie... but I also hated it for making me cry my eyes out. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are two of my favorite actors, and they really did a great job in this one!
I had some confusion about the ending though, but don't want to post a MAJOR spoiler... maybe I can DM someone here, if they don't mind?
The only thing about it was, if you've been diagnosed with lung cancer with only 6 months to live, you are not going to look or feel as healthy as Morgan Freeman's character. I knew someone who died of it and his final days were not nothing like the movie. I have no problem being in the "movie's reality" so that wasn't a big deal for me but I sure hope other's who have never experienced a loved one die of cancer think it's going to be that simple: you're diagnosed, you go through treatment, have a few good moments and then die. There's a ton of crap in between that is very intense and a reason why it wasn't shown in the movie.
That is true... my mom's best friend died of breast cancer recently, and she was in horrible shape the last time I saw her (a few months before her death). I won't go into the gory details, but it was really bad. But I know others who've had leukemia & brain tumors, and they seemed healthy on & off - so I guess it differs. Anyway, that stuff wasn't necessary for the movie, so I'm actually glad they "whitewashed" it a bit.
My mom and grandmother both passed from pancreatic cancer so I know it isn't awful to watch a loved one have to endure it. But I don't think the real issue of the movie is about cancer, it is waking people up to the fact they need to stop putting off saying or doing things in life. Lifetime grudges need to be resolved.
Gizmo you can pm me I don't want to spill too much of the movie either but it could be a great topic to discuss!
On a personal note, my grandfather was given "the 6 months" and he hung on for 6 years, just sitting in his old chair as if to wait to die. He was a stubborn old man, 3 heart attarcks, 3 strokes, he lived to tell about them.... no one, not even the grim reaper was going to tell him his time was up. His mother was Irish, his father, German. He was a rock to never budge unless he wanted to move. That's the best I can remember him.
I wondered a lot about him while watching the movie, I wondered what wrongs he could have made right in that time. Instead he just sat there and withered away. It's been 20 years, though I wondered what it would have been like if the doctors have told him he had 6 years left of life.
He'd have had more time to read the newspaper and shout out about how politicians are crooks. (Twas just his way )

My above post should have read "it is awful" not it isn't awful. Sorry can't edit it now.
