I missed this in theaters but watched it on DVD last night. What a great movie! Fantastic story. The cast was perfect. And the setting was beautiful (filmed largely in coastal Rhode Island).
One thing I noted in particular after the movie was over:
In Juno (which I loved very much) everyone seemed to rave over the quirky music. Everyone but me. I thought the music in Juno had an odd charm to it for the first 20 minutes or so. But after that, I really wanted to rip off my ears and shove popcorn in my skull to make it stop.
Not so with Dan In Real Life. The music in that movie is oddly different, too, but it was much better.
And Steve Carrell. Wow. That guy can do wacky comedy and intense drama --- and he can do both in the blink of an eye. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite actors.

I hope you've seen Little Miss Sunshine. Steve is great and actually the whole ensemble is amazing. Great movie
It was definitely WAY different than any of the previews portrayed it. The previews were trying to sell it as wacky family comedy. Kind of a Mrs. Doubtfire without the cross-dressing. It was hilarious in places, but it was really much more of a drama.
I know this movie came out almost a year ago, but I STILL want to see it! I heard it was so great and I love Steve Carell from The Office. Maybe I will rent it this wkend!
Me too ! Maybe I should watch it again. Give it another go since I also thought it would be funny. Could an actress with that nose become a romantic leading lady,, just wonderin'
