I am not inherently opposed to remakes, but I can't think of a reason to remake this. Coppola's film (although I urge you to watch the director's cut, not the theatrical release) is just about perfect. Perfect casting. Perfect writing. And beautifully stylish.
My only complaint with Coppola's movie is that so much of the book had to be cut out due to time. The director's cut rectifies a lot of that.
But if you were going to remake it, then I demand it be cast with unknown actors, not the usual cadre of Nick and Disney cuties.

What compelled me to post this thread was watching the Directors Cut yesterday. I liked it but hated the new music that basically drowned out the talking.
And yes, a cast of unknowns would be best. Most of the original actors were unknowns who mostly became household names after the movie.
It gives me anxiety thinking about a remake of Close Encounters of the Third Kind or Lone Wolf McQuade.
If they attempt to remake that, people will die.
