Lol! I knew my title would get your attention. Anyway, when she left her abusive husband she moved to a small town and rented this cute country home. That's what I'm looking for, but in a safe area with good schools and community.

I loved the town she moved to.
Even the little town fair she went to seemed so quaint.
Another movie town I loved was that one that
Doc Hollywood ended up in on his drive to Ca.
It is the community feel that seems so great.

In some ways I used to have that in a neighborhood
in N Raleigh. The neighbors created that community.

Hillsborough would probably be the most similar to the town in that movie.

The college where her boyfriend worked was the Presbyterian College - 503 S. Broad Street, Clinton, South Carolina, USA

The town where she moved to was

In an area like the Triangle where you posted, more and more such "small towns" (such as Clayton, Holly Springs and, at one point in time, Cary) are being gobbled up with sprawl as the growth skyrockets. Hard to find an area in this metro that will stay that way very long.

Mebane, just west of here, still has a little of that feel, but again, 10 years from now it will be as sprawled as everywhere else. Best to look into a different metro area for what you seek.

Yeah, Mebane is definitely growing. My friend and her husband built out there 5 years ago and it's crazy what all has popped up out there in that time. I would also say check out Hillsborough, as it isn't growing quite as fast as other towns and is still close to everything. But of course that doesn't mean it will stay that way.

My vote is Hillsborough, hands down. I grew up in northern Durham/Hillsborough area so maybe I am bias. My boyfriend is from Cary and is buying his first house. Hillsborough is our first choice, but we are also looking in northern Durham, Bahama (northern Durham County), and Mebane. Bahama is pretty and further away from things, but doesn't really have a downtown or anything for that matter. I have first hand knowledge that the schools are great since I attended them from second grade to graduation. Mebane is nice, just a little further away from the Triangle but still close enough and you are also closer to the Triad. I like Mebane, but still prefer Hillsborough. Hillsborough's schools are supposed to be pretty good too. Since I don't have children and won't for a while it's not a concern of mine so maybe others will chime in who have more experience with the Hillsborough and Mebane schools (part of Mebane is in Orange County).

Good luck to you!
