For the most part, I find child stars to be revolting. Ive seen a few good ones.

Leelee Sobieski was great in several pictures, especially "My First Mister". And Mary Stuart Masterson in "Immediate Family" and "Some Kind of Wonderful".

Rory Culkin was great in "You Can Count On Me". Leonardo DiCaprio was an excellent child actor, in "Gilbert Grape" and "This Boy's Life"

A special mention, from the 2000 picture "Cheaters",
IMDb Video: Cheaters
Anna Raj plays schoolgirl Agnieska Maryniarczyk, seen at the 1.09 mark in the trailer. The only movie she ever played in, and she was just delightful.

I think Dakota Fanning is a great little actress, in all that she does.

jtur and I agree about most child actors.

I find Dakota Fanning boring, she's making movies faster than I can watch them. I can't think of any movie that she "added" anything to. OTOH Abigail Breslin rocked "Little Miss Sunshine". Just her and Alan Arkin together made that movie everything it was.

I don't care much for Dakota Fanning, but maybe it's the parts I've seen her in that were so lame.
I always thought Shirley Temple was a talented little kid.
Jodie Foster was fun to watch as a kid, and is still good now.
I very much enjoyed Lukas Haas' performance in Witness.
Jamie Bell was enjoyable in Billy Elliot, and I've seen him do well in later smaller parts.
Sebastian Rice Edwards was mesmerizing in John Boorman's autobiographical film Hope and Glory, but I never saw Rice Edwards in another movie.

"Thirteen" was by far the most impressive teen movie I've ever seen. Everybody was good in that---even the grownups.

Tatum O'Neal, and the girl in "The Professional" (Natalie Portman) , strike me as being way too impossible. Classic roles, that made great films, but really, what are the odds?

Leon (The Professional) is a very over-rated film. The performances are great from all the actors, and it's beautifully shot, but the story is just ten kinds of silly. It tried to be noir but was just bad camp.

Wasn't Dakota Fanning in Man on Fire? I thought she was very good in that.

There was another one I thought she was very good in.......I just can't remember the title or what it was about!

Kirsten Dunst was amazing in Interview with the Vampire.
The kid actors in Frailty were outstanding.
Paul Dano was incredile in L.I.E.
Leonardo DiCaprio and River Phoenix were outstanding in their early films.
Ivana Baquero was solid in Pan's Labyrinth.
