Yeah, my dad got into this phase of renting movies below TROMA levels back when we first got a VCR. First he rented nothing but old oscar winners (like 2001, West Side Story, etc) and then he went completely to the other side of the spectrum.

'The World According to Garp'--Robin Williams

I have to say Mr. John Irving can be tedious at times. 'Hotel New Hampshire', springs immediately to mind.

I will always believe this book and it's perv bear inspired Conan O'Brien's masturbating bear. I could have lived my life happily having never heard or seen anything about such a bear.

John Irving--hope you are writing something good now. How about a light, comedy? Hmmmm?

I wholeheartedly agree..Denzel was nothing less than sensational in this film.

Some recent flops I saw:

88 minutes..yeah..of my life I can't get back

Vantage point..Never saw so many people in a theater shake their heads in disgust..A total waste of time.

The Strangers..Pure junk

The Shipping News/Kevin Spacey

I just couldn't get into it--for one thing I couldn't stop thinking about how cold it must be/have been in Newfoundland. The author of the book consulted on the film and was pretty sick of the whole process--no complaints against anyone involved personally but she had to answer a lot of technical questions. <evil grin> Seemed to be something of an 'Old Salt' herself and was 'very clear' at times, I would wager.

Some I dasagree with from the posts so far:

No Country for Old Men - I think anything Tommy Lee Jones is in is spectacular!
Boogie Nights - Not the best film, but pushed the boundaries, and I thought it was somewhat original.
Mr. & Ms. Smith - Im a guy, stuff like that is fun!
Vantage Point - Thought it was fairly entertaining.

Malcom X I did not like either, guess I wasn't part of it's target audience though, no offense.

Whatever that last Star Wars movie was. Can't remember the title but I actually fell asleep in the theatre during that one .

History of Violence - I think it was just made to promote the Chrystler 300.

Terminal - I actually left the theater before it was over. Simply putting Tom Hanks in a movie does not make it good.
