Film name help, 1980s? (documentary, foreign, reviews, life)

It wasn't a major film though it got good reviews for an indy type film.
Essentially it was a slice of time in the life of a rather plain
non-glamorous women who worked in a rather business like brothel in a big city.
At home she was a lesbian and rode a bike to work.
In my memory it was in black and white but I'm not sure it really was.
i don't think it was foreign.
It was almost non-narrative documentary in style.....
