I did not really expect that twist, and I was grateful for the summary at the end.
I did, too.
Are you asking if it IS conceivable? There are athletic ballerinas out there, but her body type was very distracting for me, especially in that early ballet scene. Just in general, her physicality did not fit her backstory. I would have expected someone with more slinky elegance. JL is earthy and sexy...but clunky and not graceful at all.
Eh. Better in RED.
I loved seeing Matthias Schoenaerts.
Longest. Movie. Ever. (Or at least it felt that way to me.) Not very exciting at all. And JL's acting was fine, but the entire movie was blank face. I started getting distracted by the perpetual blank face.
Matthias was good but part so stereotypical
Parker did a lot with her 5 minutes
Red was bigger role
And IMO Joel Edgerton is just not buff enough to make the first pool scene work
He is not a sexy guy
Kinky Boots worked as romance because he was sweet and earnest--not sexy
Lola was the sexy beast in that movie
This is one of my go-to feel good movies. I watch it when I need a happy boost.
Right before that one I watched "Get Out" and was quite impressed. It's a horror movie and also, IMO, a social satire. The acting is exceptional particularly the male lead.
Adèle is a high school student who is beginning to explore herself as a woman. She dates men but finds no satisfaction with them sexually, and is rejected by a female friend who she does desire. She dreams of something more. She meets Emma who is a free spirited girl whom Adele's friends reject due to her sexuality, and by association most begin to reject Adèle. Her relationship with Emma grows into more than just friends as she is the only person with whom she can express herself openly. Together, Adèle and Emma explore social acceptance, sexuality, and the emotional spectrum of their maturing relationship. - IMDb
Everything you would expect from French cinema; provocative, controversial and contemplative. It's a simple love story but told in an interesting way. A testament to being young and in love with all the joy & heartbreak that that entails.
The ambiguous ending had me captivated, as well in floods of tears. In fact I did not want this film to finish, as I yearned to learn more about the love-lorn Adèle seeking solace and comfort in her mixed-up world of love, friendship and loneliness. Purely because her life had some very similar parallels to my own teen life, and watching this film reopened some of those subconscious memories that I had hoped had been securely locked away!
Re Lawrence in "Red Sparrow"
Article in today's paper said that Lawrence trained for 5 months 4 days a week prior to filming in her garage w/ballet teacher who worked with Portman and Kunis on "Black Swan" to learn body language, use weights to strengthen arms and other aspects but it was only her upper body (for the face I imagine) that was actually used in movie
There was AMerican Ballet company main dancer who danced her character's role and was used as the "bottom" when Lawrence was moving...
Didn't look up the dancer to check her body morphology against Lawrence
Kudos for working so long to prepare but like Margo Robbie in "I, Tonya" some things are more off-putting than enhancing...
I just wonder how well it will do overseas
She is supposed to be big star in other countries---draws good box office and with this having a European setting I wondered if it would appeal more over there...
Black Panther apparently is doing such good box office maybe it will be allowed to sink w/o much damage to her career...
We saw that -- pretty realistic but really so sad...
Good acting on Nick's part
