Phoebe in Wonderland (2008)

I saw this on DVD and loved it. The lead (Elle Fanning) was a marvelous child actor, and I will be interested to see how she develops her craft. I haven't seen such talent since Jodi Foster. So far, I've loved Patricia Clarkston in each of the three roles I've seen her, and the two of the carried the day. (Felicity Huffman, the mother, seemed to "over-play" her role a bit, IMO, but she was definitely a strong supporting role.

I haven't read "Alice in Wonderland" since I was a child, but this movie brought the magic of it alive for me, and Phoebe's dissonance with "reality" certainly played well in tandem with Lewis Carroll's (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) original work. The writer/director has nothing to be ashamed of here.

Isn't that about kids killing each other?

Boomerang. Very funny movie, no matter how many times I watch it.

Invictus (2009)

I LOVED this movie. I've always like Morgan Freeman, and he does a great job in his role as Nelson Mandela. Matt Damon just keeps getting better and better. Two heroes in one movie -- how can it be bad?

If it is, which it seems to be, though I've been tempted to rent it, I'm going to pass. I don't want to spend half the movie being traumatized by watching kids being harmed.
