We watched 2003's Wonderland, about the Laurel Canyon drug-related killings which involved John Holmes, the 70s porn actor, with Val Kilmer, Dylan McDermott & Kate Bosworth. I forgot how good it was.
Excellent acting by all, interesting cinematography, wacky 70s style gear & very fast moving plot. Val was especially excellent. And, if Holmes is 1/2 the slimy geezer he was made out to be, well, he was a beyond-horrible user of a human being.
As a side note, I recently read a quote by a director (forget which one) who worked with Val in the past. Apparently, when Kilmer played Jim Morrison & another role, according to said director, he did heroin in the morning before shooting, because he said, 'that's what Jim would have done'. Two directors said he was nuts, disturbed & evil & would never work with him again. He played Holmes with such a blown-up, sometimes comical bent (which added to his character, not detracted), that I'm wondering if he was actually imbibing during his role. Seems an extreme to go through in order to play a part... like Laurence Olivier said to Dustin Hoffman when he stayed up all night in order to feign tiredness during Marathon Man & kept flubbing his lines as a result... 'Dear god man, why don't you just act tired!' Method actors incensed Olivier.
Wonderful, seedy movie. To those on the delicate side, there is no nudity & even very little talk of sex, despite involving the porn industry, but some scenes are quite violent & bloody as they reenact the murders (awful to watch... I left the room) & there are a few scenes where they flash actual crime scene photos of the real victims into the mix. I hate to see them, but I understand... it's not entertainment, actual lives (of less than stellar people, but murder is illegal nonetheless, no matter where we stand on the sliminess of an individual/s) were brutally ended due to greed, jealousy & rage.
Still, we are unanimous in giving it 5* out of 5 for a brilliant film.
Star trek: Generations...now im a little sad. I dont care who they put as capt, but James T. Kirk will always be capt of the enterprise in my book.
Yeah thats the last star trek movie I love!!!!
