He's made films in recent years, that never hit the theater. They're either direct-to-video...or they appear on late night TV. Is that the nadir of an actor's career? When their films aren't even mentioned in the theaters?

They hit theatres, they just don't have wide release. It has to do with the way the video market works and typical creative Hollywood accounting.

Here's something I found online that I didn't know:

Unbeknownst to many, in 1997 Seagal publicly announced that one of his Buddhist teachers, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, had accorded Seagal as a tulku, the reincarnation of a Buddhist Lama.
Guess this keeps his busy...or caused many in Hollywood to take him less seriously.

I like the guy but he cannot act. His facial expression is always the same and he delivers his lines in a monotone.

I still watch his movies on TV from time to time because he's the good guy who is righting some wrong. I guess it is a carry over from my days watching Mighty Mouse.

This post mirrors my opinions about Steven Seagal...I admire his accomplishments even though he isn't an expressive actor. And, I'm definitely a fan of his movies!!!

Default I like Steven Segal

He is unique and plays his roles well. Great fighting scenes, explosive even. The only knock against him is that he doesn't seem to put much effort in totally obliterating his opposition. I wish he had more roles and better story lines too. I don't need for him to be a grandmaster in real life. I just need for him to be good at portraying one in his movies and he doesn't that quite well. He would be perfect as America's version of James Bond.

He's far, far better than that goofy-looking goofy goofball Jackie Chan. I have never been able to sit through this lark's movies.
