I didn't expect to the homophobia scene in the movie, but I didn't spend much time thinking about it. I don't see how Julia Child would enjoy living in Cambridge, Mass all those years if she was a homophobe. Cambridge is far from being what I would call a homophobic community.

I enjoyed the movie. I thought Julie would have met Julia in the end but it didn't work out that way.
True, this movie wasn't solely about Julia...and it was a wonderful movie for many reasons...romantic, positive and upbeat, very funny, and lots of cooking. It would be great to have a biographical movie about Julia...wouldn't be surprised if one wasn't already in the works. Since I'm in the process of moving this month, the first dish I'm making in my new kitchen is the Beouf Bourguignon. Can hardly wait....
Mmmm... I haven't made Julia's version, but I've done Ina Garten's a couple of times. I do think she used too much wine in it, though... Wait a minute, is that possible? Anyway, I love that dish. Good luck with it!

Default Julie/Julia

Saw it this weekend. IMO Merl Streep portrayed Julia tipsy all the time. LOL, that was my take on it anyway. Just the way she moved and talked. I know Julia Child had a strong accent but why have her move so stiffly, etc and they drank martinis all the time it seemed. I know she wasn't tipsy in real life from what I saw of her on TV.

Plus they smoked while they ate all that wonderful French food and drooled over it. How could they taste it?

Anyway it was a movie that would get people to eating and smoking if you watched too much of it IMO but I enjoyed it. LOL

Julia Child used to drink wine on her show all the time. SNL once did a funny skit on her drinking wine and accidentally cutting herself, which she also did sometimes on her show. In the skit she's totally, happily drunk and bleeds to death.

What kind of accent did she have? Her show was called The French Chef, but she wasn't French, and she wasn't a chef and she herself laughed about that.

never thought Julia Child was a lush. LOL I need to read the books about her. Also, I thought she was British with her accent but in the movie here comes her sister with a Texas accent. I am just totally confused. ?????
