Watched Blame it on Fidel last night. A French film worth watching.

kids are home..we rented Hellboy 2 and Incredible Hulk. I could not watch Hellboy. When you have a 14 year old boy..you get what they want to see. I have watched a couple of movies on demand. Enjoyed a Meg Ryan movie called "In the Land of Women" the movie wasn't so much about her as it was the young male writer.

Head-On
(no, not that wacky headache ailment)
Turkish movie. Living in Hamburg, Germany, Sibel is the younger daughter of a conservative Turkish family, and proposes a fake marriage to Cahit, in order to permit her to leave her family; in return, she would share the rent of the flat, and she would cook and clean the place, and they could have independent lives. Cahit accepts, but while living with Sibel, he falls in love for her.
Very vividly drawn characters. Intriguing culture clashes--no easy way out of this situation.

My Neighbor Tortoro
You don't have to be a kid to become enthralled with this animated feature (done by Hayao Miyazaki, the same guy who did Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.)
Princess Mononoke is still my favorite, but I enjoyed this tale of two little girls who move out to the country, miss their sick mother, and are befriended by the forest inhabitants. Beautiful country scenes, and I always enjoy Miyazaki's imaginative creatures. (Love the cat bus!)

Tropic Thunder. Blah. Maybe it got better, but I could only tolerate about 20 minutes before I turned it off. Returned it to the video store without watching all of it.
You go to the same Redbox I do?

Tropic- wasn't bad, but not as funny as expected. Robert Downey Jr. was great though and Tom Cruise took me time to recognize (by his voice).

Hancock - OK, not outstanding, but a decent hour and a half. Would have like Charleze Therons character to have been expanded a bit - she rocked the second half. Kind of felt something was missing from the story too, like they couldn't make up their minds where to go, and liked each idea too much to cut.

-Stalingrad. Awesome flick-add that to my top five war flicks.
-Der Untergang (The Downfall)-Another great German film; tells of Hitlers last days before the fall of the Third Reich. Excellent performances, outstanding film.
-Idi i Smotri (Come and See)-Russian partisans vs. Nazis. Must-see war film.
-The Dark Knight-I was genuinly surprised that I enjoyed this film so much because I don't normally like comic-book stuff. Heath Ledger blew me away!
-Golden Compass-Hubby got this one because he likes Nicole Kidman but I got bored about 10 minutes into it and fell asleep. He said it sucked.
-Last House on the Left-Seriously, one of the worst films I've ever seen. I thought it was supposed to be controversial and disturbing, but I found it insipid, ridiculous, and boring. What a waste of time.

"The Big Lebowski" because I really didnt realize it was a Cohen Bros movie and ignored it for years. I laughed out loud a few times. Jeff Bridges was a hoot. John Goodman, looking almost thin compared to his current state, stole every scene he was in. Good rental.

the dark knight - 4/5 i definately liked the darker side of batman, and went a bit more unrealistic with the movie vs the last one. hedger stole the show tho

tropic thunder - 5/5 fricking hilarious. it got a little silly at the end but otherwise great flick. this is one of the few ben stiller movies i can bare to watch, so it says a lot when i say i loved this movie

21-The Movie
Liked it. Good to see Kevin Spacey back on film. Would give it a 3 out of 5 rating. Not a waste of time.

Double feature. "PINEAPPLE EXPRESS" Ahhh the memories of youth. It was way over the top, Seth Rogan played Seth Rogan again, James Franco was a hoot. SOme funny spots, some surprising violence, but it was about drug dealers hence the shoot ups. I would only recommend it to people who know how to roll.
"The Duchess", a true story, beautiful sets, costumes and a STRONG case for womens rights. I liked it. Husband fell asleep.
