Mongol. Russian-made. First of a trilogy on the life of Genghis Kahn. I thought it was a gorgeous movie.

I saw it at cinema last year and it was absolutely superb.
I can't wait for the second instalment.

I just watched "The Closet" last night an excellent French Film with Gerard Depardieu , Daniel Auteuil and Jean Rochefort. Very funny but with some nice human touches.

Moose, I actually belly-laughed at The Closet (I don't often do that with a movie.)

So glad to hear that Mongol is out on rental, thanks for the heads up Enrico, I just added it to my Netflix queue.

I just rented God Grew Tired Of Us.
From IMDB:
Four boys from Sudan embark on a journey to America after years of wandering Sub-Saharan Africa in search of safety.
What a heartbreaking yet inspiring eye-opener.
This guys are so educated yet so curious, have so much dignity yet still can laugh, even during such desperate, trying times.

Me too, it's even better in French !
"God grew tired of us" sounds good, I shall keep an eye out for it.

I watched the Kevin Smith movie "Zack and Miri Make a Porno". Funny, filthy movie with a heart warming love story. Love all of Smith's movies, especially "Clerks". Also got "Lakeview Terrace" with Samuel L. Jackson, but didn't watch it yet.

My 83 year old mother doesn't have much she can do anymore but watch tv (very bad reception on ant in one room and very basic cable package in the other) so I got a netflix acct for her. Huge hit. I'm 4 hours away and basically have to try to find movies that she'd like.
She has a lot of opinions (read she's sort of a nice funny crazy bigot like a lot of people her age).
No feminists!
No sex!
No WWII (she lived through it in Europe, not interested in doing it again)
No homosexuals!
So I do a lot PBS series, old movies
She wings those movies back and forth in the mail! Its sort of a guessing game interesting exercise for me, once in a while I mix it up because she can be surprising sometimes and likes something I wasn't sure about and doesn't like something I thought was a sure thing.
Its hard to keep her queue up.
I don't always hear what she thought of something, half the time she forgets by the time I talk to her.
I know she liked:
Babette's Feast which I liked to and was hoping she would
The Red Violin
She did not like Baby Momma, something about "stupid women think their funny but they're just stupid" (lol)...I thought it was good, not up to the hype though.

I have Vicky Christie Barcelona (is that right?) here from Netflix but haven't watched it yet.

I just rented La Vie en Rose, which is about the french singer Edith Piaf. It was pretty good. The actress that played Edith was very good.

I'm really interested in learning more about Edith's life now, so I have to find some books about her.

What a great story, you are blessed to have her Since she enjoyed Babette's Feast, I wonder if she would enjoy Big Night a warm foodie film with a big heart

Big Night (1996)
