I was a huge fan on the comic books growing up so that is why I like War Zone so much. It was more true to the comic book than the other versions. I don't think any Punisher movie will ever have a wide audience. If you tone it down, the comic geeks won't like it and if you keep it as brutal as the comic you are shutting out a lot of people.
But if you let him get into a Spider Man cartoon, well then, all it right in the world, right?

One of the best Punisher stories ever was a What If... when Spiderman started really wailing on Frank. Frank thought to himself "he must have been really holding back all those other times"
the thnig was, I was tooling around all teh HD channels and came across the new Spidey fighting Punisher (I think that is what it was, not many other Marvel cartoons out now).
I was disappointed at the unrealistic all-weapon loadout super science fiction miracle weapons he had. he was also too clean, and dressed too day-glo for a merc/"punisher"....
I never followed him directly, but whenever he would cameo he was one of those Nick Fury kinda guys sans any authority to respect/obey.
They over-franchised him to too many artists, writers and titles though. I swear he was THIS close to saying "bub".
Punisher will never be a hit movie since he's not considered a "superhero", but just another guy with guns shooting people. I'm not complaining at all (although the movies weren't all that), and I read the comics as a kid - but it won't appeal to the mass public. All the punisher movies were no different than any other movie where the guy loses a loved one and goes ballistic with guns that never run out of bullets.
