So we all have comfort foods.. What about comfort movies? Ones you watch over and over again for whatever reasons (they make you sleep, happy, escape from reality etc.).. Do you have one?

For me its definitely "Lord of the Rings" (the whole trilogy). It is a nice escape from reality but mostly because it makes me sleepy, lol. In a good way! After a long week watching this movie can almost guarantee a stress free evening. Another one is "Sense and Sensibility" and "Pride and Prejudice" (the BBC version).

For me it's the original Star Wars trilogy (Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi). These films really help escape from reality for a while.

"The Lord of the Rings" trilogy is definitely high up there on the list. I would also consider "Gladiator," "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (the Errol Flynn movie), "MouseTrap," "Chocolat," "Henry V" (the Kenneth Branagh version), "Pirates of the Caribbean" (the first one), "Bringing Up Baby" and "The Wizard of Oz" good comfort movies. Kind of a motley nunch I know but those are what popped into my head as the movies I have turned to on a rainy day (so to speak).

oh yes, that BBC pride and prejudice, that really is my go-to comfort dvd. period dramas are oddly comforting that way! hmmm, usually there is comfort in regression so i do rather love the teen movies from years ago like 10 things i hate about you or never been kissed, cheesey but they have happy endings which is what is important!

"Nobody's Fool" - The characters and situations are so familiar.
"The Natural" - One can find redemption despite life's distractions and temptations.
"The Fisher King" - (See above)
"2001 A Space Odyssey" and "Blade Runner" - Finding oneself alone in an alien, hostile future
"Babette's Feast" - So your glorious past is gone. You can find an unimaginably better future.
"The Secret of Roan Inish" - The blessings and riches of one's family
"Local Hero" - The difference between the way people are supposed to be and the way they are. The latter is much more fun
