or for younger people The Breakup (Aniston/Vaughn)
Do they accurately show some stories of divorce? War of the Roses was a little over the top (like when he makes mincemeat out of the cat) However it is an amusing topic. I remember that Danny DeVito (a bloodsucking lawyer) says they will be arguing over the small statue they bought when they first met-over pots and pans and stupid things. Does this really happen? can anyone think of other movies they liked about this subject?
Ah- I just thought of another one "Dolores Claiborne" (that was extreme though-lol)
The War of the Roses was an actual war that took place in England when the successor of the crown was in dispute. The real parallel it has with the movie about divorce was the fact that both wars were incredibly brutal!
This is one of my favorite movies b/c it gets really dark between the couple, although Michael Douglas' character still wants to reconcile throughout the entire movie. Even at the end when he puts his hand on her arm as they're dying and Kathleen Turner pushes it off!!
& i know we all have to be poltically correct now when it comes to animals, but if you remember, Michael Douglas runs over the cat by accident.
I thought parts of it were very funny. Also in Dolores Claiborne after she finds he cleaned out her savings, and she has him fall into the well (while he is drunk)
Me and my dad saw it when I was in college. I remember it being the first real black comedy that I ever saw ... I mean, the ending was downright tragic, but you had to chuckle because it was never going to be over. You could argue all night who was the worst person and it was a draw right down the middle, even though Michael Douglas had more square footage
The line that had the most impact on me was when the lawyer (Danny DeVito) said when talking to Oliver (Michael Douglas), "There is no winning in this. It's only degrees of losing." Truer words were never spoken! What a horribly dark, grim movie. I only saw it once, and that was more than enough. I like happy endings, what can I say?
She-Devil (not quite as intense as WoR, but she (Roseanne) gets her revenge. Love
how she makes a plan & achieves her goals! Woman scorned can be so evil....LOL
Irreconcilable Differences (again not intense like WoR...but a good movie!)
