That's what I've been trying to say!!! Read is too busy raging against nihilism to understand. Reminds me of people who think that the Pink Floyd song "Money" is about the band loving money.
Your post helps illustrate my point. Fight Club is the sort of film to encourge people not particularly well educated to think they're on some sort of cutting edge of thought into the downfall of Western Civilization. However, those of us who've studied a bit more than others on the topics of anthropology, sociology, history, political science, etc. find the film to be rather bland and self-aggrandizing. In other words, Fight Club is essentially a mental masturbation for the intellectually lazy.

The point is that FC was not a pretentious movie. For some reason, you seem to think that it is. Whether or not you think it is a good movie, it was not pretentious and certainly didn't glorify nihlism.
